Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month — Real Love Respects
Every February, communities across the country come together for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM) — a national effort to raise awareness about teen dating violence and champion healthy, respectful relationships.
Teen dating violence is more common than many people realize. Research shows that about one in three teens in the U.S. will experience physical, emotional, or sexual abuse from someone they are dating before they become adults. This issue affects young people of all backgrounds, genders, and identities — and it’s something we can talk about, prevent, and change.
2026 Theme: Real Love Respects
This year’s TDVAM theme is “Real Love Respects.” It’s a simple — yet powerful — reminder that healthy relationships are built on respect, honesty, kindness, and mutual care. When love is real, it doesn’t make you question your worth. It doesn’t control you, isolate you, or make you feel unsafe — respect is always present.
Respect is non-negotiable. And understanding what healthy love looks like — and how to recognize the warning signs of unhealthy or abusive behavior — helps young people build stronger relationships and supports overall well-being.
How You Can Get Involved
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month is more than awareness — it’s a call to action. You can:
- Learn more about what healthy relationships look like and how to spot the early signs of unhealthy or abusive behaviors.
- Share resources with teens, parents, educators, and friends.
- Start conversations in your school, youth group, or community.
- Follow TDVAM events — including webinars and action guides created especially for youth and those who support them.
Whether you wear orange during February, post about healthy relationships on social media, or simply check in on a friend, your voice matters. Awareness leads to understanding — and understanding leads to prevention.
