Ohio Prevention and Mental Health Updates to Know This Spring
There are several new opportunities across Ohio focused on prevention, resiliency, recovery, and family support. From grant funding to statewide resource expansion to upcoming trainings and events, these updates may be helpful for coalition members, prevention professionals, schools, families, and community partners here in Pickaway County.
One of the biggest current opportunities is the Reading for Resiliency Initiative, a new prevention-focused funding opportunity centered on literacy, family connection, and emotional wellness. One selected applicant will receive up to $500,000 to carry out events in multiple Ohio regions. Questions are due by April 22, and applications are due by April 29. Learn more here: View the RFA.
Ohio families will also soon have expanded access to help through the statewide growth of Ohio 211, which is expected to reach all 88 counties by the end of June 2026. Ohio 211 is a free, 24/7 service that connects residents to local help for food, housing, transportation, medical care, counseling, and more. You can explore the service at Ohio 211 or read the announcement here: Governor DeWine Announces Statewide Expansion of 211.
The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health is also asking for public feedback on how PATH funds should be used to support people experiencing or transitioning out of homelessness. Community members, partners, and providers can learn more on the DBH PATH information page and submit comments by April 23.
For those who work with children and families, the Ohio Department of Children and Youth is gathering input to help shape a new Electronic Child Maltreatment Guidance Tool. The survey is intended to help improve clarity and support for mandated reporters and others making difficult reporting decisions. The survey is open through May 15 and can be completed here: Complete the survey.
Looking ahead, National Prevention Week will take place May 10–16, highlighting the work communities are doing to prevent substance misuse and promote mental wellness. SAMHSA’s planning resources are available here: National Prevention Week Toolkit.
