DESCRIPTION:The Pickaway County community is invited to attend a screening of Screenagers Under The Influence: Addressing Vaping\, Drugs\, and Alcohol in the Digital Age on Wednesday\, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Ohio Christian University (1476 Lancaster Pike in Circleville). Parents and guardians are welcome to bring their children to the event. The film runs 50 minutes with a Q&A immediately following. To RSVP for this FREE event\, visit: screenagerspaac.eventbrite.com \nPrior to the screening\, join us for “Hidden in Plain Sight\,” an on-site interactive drug education program for parents. Many parents say they do not know what indicators may indicate drug use. The mock teenage bedroom will display some everyday items that can actually be indicators of drug use or risky behavior. The audience will be shown and advised of the significance of every item on display in the “bedroom”. The goal is to have the viewers understand what may be “Hidden in Plain Sight”. \nAbout The Film\nScreenagers Under The Influence: Addressing Vaping\, Drugs\, and Alcohol in the Digital Age\, delves into how the tech revolution has reshaped adolescence and its effects on substance use. According to the producers\, the film debunks myths and presents strategies parents and schools can use to encourage healthy decision-making\, support teen mental health\, set limits\, and create healthy home environments. The film also includes many ways young people are using their wisdom and strength to help each other and themselves through this complicated terrain around substance use. \nWhile most documentaries about substance use focus on severe addiction\, Screenagers Under The Influence fills a pressing need for a film that explores more common scenarios. The film is grounded in teens’ current reality of being flooded by images on social media\, movies\, and TV shows about vaping\, drugs\, and alcohol. Screenagers Under The Influence interweaves cutting-edge science with personal stories to create an informative and entertaining film experience for young people and adults alike. Screenagers Under The Influence focuses on practical solutions for keeping our teens safe in a changing world. \nMore information on the documentary as well as the trailer can be found on the Screenagers website.

DESCRIPTION:On August 30\, community members and community resource teams gather together for Overdose Awareness Day. \nOAD exists to remember the lives lost to drug overdose\, to lower stigma around substance use disorder and substance use related death. Through days like this\, we promote prevention and recovery\, and we use it as a platform to highlight the importance of strategies we can all use to reduce the risks related to substance use disorder. \nWe will be passing out education and resources\, train and pass out Naloxone and other harm reduction supplies\, we will have food and music and listen to the stories of those who are overcoming substance use disorder. We hope the community joins us on this day to foster compassion and empathy and to encourage unity and collaboration in the community to solve this problem. \nBring a padlock to the event if you want your loved one’s name at the Memorial Locks of Love Gate on Overdose Awareness Day.
